How CME Credits Work
CaseStacks CME credits are AMA PRA Category 1โข credits, accredited through NWAHEC (Northwest Area Health Education Center) at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Free accounts do not qualify for CME credits. You must have an active PRO subscription or institution account.
Earning Credits
You earn CME automatically as you complete cases:
- CME-eligible cases have an associated credit value (typically 0.25 to 1.0 credit each)
- Credit is awarded the first time you complete a case โ re-completing the same case does not re-award credit
- There's no separate test or timed-viewing requirement โ completing the case is what triggers credit
Not every case carries CME โ it's set per case in the editorial workflow. Cases with CME credit attached show the value on the case page. Your earned CME balance appears on the CME Dashboard; click Show detailed breakdown to see credits grouped by course and lesson.
Maximum CME by Plan
The total CME you can earn depends on which plan you have, since each plan gives access to a different set of courses. Approximate maximums based on the current course catalog:

All-Site Access PRO and Institution accounts include every CME-eligible course across the catalog, for a maximum of 105 AMA PRA Category 1โข credits โ the most you can earn on CaseStacks. The Neuro Fellowship courses (Brain Tumors, Neurodegenerative Diseases, and Congenital Hearing Loss) are also available on their own via the Neuro Fellowship: Advanced Only and Neuro Fellowship: All Neuro plans.
In the App
The mobile app tracks and displays the CME credits you've earned. To see your balance, open your profile picture at the top right, then CME & Certificates. Certificates you've already been issued are listed there too.
Claiming CME is done on casestacks.com, not in the app. When you're ready to claim, sign in on the website and use the CME Dashboard. Credits keep accruing in the app either way.
Claiming Your Credits
Claiming happens on the website. When you're ready to claim your earned CME credits:
- Go to the CME Dashboard
- Click Claim Your CME Credits
- Enter how many credits you'd like to claim (in 0.25 increments, up to your available total)
- Fill in your name, degree, and physician status
- Confirm the verification statement
- Pay the processing fee via Stripe
- Your claim enters processing and review
- Your official certificate is emailed after approval and certificate issuance
Only one active claim can be in progress at a time.
Claim Fees
A processing fee is charged based on the number of credits claimed:

Multiple Claims
You can claim credits in multiple smaller batches over time โ for example, claim a portion now for license renewal and claim more later as you complete additional cases. Your unclaimed earned credits don't expire on CaseStacks, though you should check your medical board's rules on when claimed credits can be used.
Professional Status
- Physicians (MD, DO) โ full AMA PRA Category 1โข credit
- Non-physicians โ may still claim credits for professional development; check with your certifying body regarding acceptance
After Claiming
Once your payment is confirmed, your claim is reviewed and then submitted to NWAHEC for certificate issuance. You'll receive your official CME certificate by email, typically within 24โ48 hours after approval.
If your certificate submission encounters an issue after payment, you can retry from the CME Dashboard. If the problem persists, contact support@casestacks.com.
