Assessments & Call Simulator

How to use the Call Simulator for practice and Assessments for graded evaluations.

Updated Aug 21, 2026

These are two separate products. The Call Simulator is on both the website and the mobile app, where it has its own Simulator tab. Assessments are a website feature and are not available in the app.

Call Simulator

The Call Simulator lets you practice radiology consultations by working through cases as if fielding real calls. Cases are presented blind โ€” you see the patient demographics, indication, and images, but not the diagnosis.

Starting a Session

Choose which courses/topics to include โ€” the course picker already scopes the pool by body region and modality. Then optionally configure:

  • Case Filter โ€” Limit to All, Incomplete, Complete, or only your saved cases. Filter further by AI Grade range, or by Age Group (Adults / Peds).
  • Time limit โ€” Set a total session time for added pressure
  • Case limit โ€” Set a maximum number of cases per session
  • Distractions โ€” Enable simulated interruptions (quiet, moderate, or busy) that mimic real-world clinic distractions during your session

During a Session

For each case, review the images and write a preliminary report describing your findings and impression. You can type or use voice dictation (click the microphone icon or press Alt+T). Reports auto-save as you work.

If you enabled a time limit, a countdown timer appears in the footer. The session ends automatically when time runs out or you've completed all cases.

Navigate between cases using the Previous/Next buttons, and end the session early at any time.

After a Session

The summary page shows your total cases reviewed, reports written, and session duration. You can review past sessions from the activity page.

In the App

Open the Simulator tab at the bottom of the screen and set up the session the same way. During a session you write your report in the Preliminary Report bar under the image. Keyboard shortcuts are a website feature. See Using the Call Simulator for the mobile steps.

Assessments

Assessments run on casestacks.com, so use the website for graded work.

Assessments are graded evaluations where AI scores your reports against expert references. Unlike the Call Simulator, each case can only be graded once โ€” after grading, the case is permanently locked for your account.

Starting an Assessment

From the assessments page, configure your session:

  • Session name (optional) โ€” Label your session for easy reference later
  • Limit type โ€” Unlimited, time-limited, or case-limited
  • Modalities โ€” Filter by CT, XR, MRI, US, or NM
  • Grade display โ€” See grades after each case, or all at once at the end

Writing and Submitting Reports

Each case shows the same blind presentation as the Call Simulator. Write your preliminary report (up to 15,000 characters) and click Submit Report. The AI evaluates your report shortly afterwards.

Grading and Feedback

After grading, you'll see:

  • Score โ€” A percentage grade with color coding (green, yellow, or red)
  • AI feedback โ€” An explanation of what you identified correctly, what you missed, and key learning points
  • Expert report โ€” The reference report for comparison

You can also click Ask Voxel AI to ask follow-up questions about the case.

Reviewing Past Assessments

Visit the assessment activity page to see all your past sessions with dates, case counts, and average scores. Click any session to review the full case-by-case results.
