Both are earned by completing cases on CaseStacks, but they serve different purposes:
- Certificate of Completion — free, awarded when you finish all cases in a course. Not accredited.
- CME — accredited AMA PRA Category 1™ continuing medical education for board maintenance and licensure. Requires a paid subscription and a claim fee.
You can earn both.
-
Finishing any course earns you a free Certificate of Completion:
- Open any course (e.g. Neuro CT) while logged in.
- Complete every case — each case you open is marked complete automatically.
- Once your progress reaches 100%, a Claim Your Certificate button appears in the course sidebar.
- Click it, enter the name you want printed on the certificate, and you’ll receive a PDF copy by email with an on-screen download.
There’s no fee — Certificates of Completion are always free. CME is claimed separately from your account.

More Details
Registration
To qualify for continuing medical education credit, users must register for a paid subscription on CaseStacks. The free subscription does not qualify for CME. Users must have an account to accumulate and claim CME credit.
Qualification for CME credits
When a logged in user navigates to a radiology case in one of our courses, that case will automatically be "marked complete" and the applicable credit hours will be added to the user's "Credit Hours Earned" value (shown on the CME page). All cases that are part of our nine radiology courses qualify.
It is expected that users will view the radiology case material and spend at least the corresponding time credit for each case; for example, if a case is worth 0.2 credit hours, it is expected that users will spend at least 12 minutes on that case. Users will only receive credit once for any given case; although cases may be viewed multiple times, credit will be assigned only for the first time they are viewed.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer credit for cases viewed prior to November 16, 2021. You may, however, reset your data on your progress page if you would like to start over.
Claiming and Awarding of CME credits
Users may claim AMA PRA category 1™ earned at any time by selecting "Claim CME" on their CME page and by then completing the questionnaire. When users claim credit, they are required to provide the following identifiers: first name, last name, and email address.
Multiple Claims
You may submit additional claims as you earn more credits. Each claim deducts from your available balance, and a 24-hour waiting period applies between claims.
