Marking Cases as Complete

Marking Cases as Complete

How case completion works on CaseStacks — auto-complete by default, with manual mode as an option.

Updated Aug 21, 2026

How Completion Works

By default, CaseStacks automatically marks cases complete when you open them. You don't need to click anything โ€” simply viewing a case records it in your progress.

This is the recommended setting for most users. You can turn it off if you'd rather mark completion manually.

Turning Auto-Complete Off

If you prefer to mark cases complete yourself:

  1. Open the settings panel (gear icon in the footer), or go to Account Settings โ†’ Accessibility tab
  2. Turn off Auto-complete cases
  3. Cases now stay "not complete" until you mark them

Manually Marking Complete

When auto-complete is off, the Mark Complete button appears in the case header. On the website it sits at the top of the right column on a wide screen, and near the top of the case on a narrow one such as a phone browser.

  • Click Mark Complete to record the case as done โ€” the button turns green and shows "Completed"
  • Click Completed again to undo completion

There are no prerequisites โ€” you don't need to open every image first. The button is always available when auto-complete is off.

Marking a case complete also works in the CaseStacks mobile app, which is a separate app from the website. It needs a connection.

Where Completed Cases Show Up

  • Dashboard โ€” overall cases-completed count and recent activity
  • Course pages โ€” completed cases get a green checkmark
  • Progress โ€” see Tracking Your Progress
  • CME Dashboard โ€” CME-eligible cases count toward your earned CME once completed

CME and Completion

CME credit is awarded for the first time you complete a CME-eligible case. Marking a case incomplete and then complete again does not re-award credit for the same case. If a case has CME credit attached, completing it automatically adds those credits to your balance โ€” see Claiming CME Credits.
