Findings
CT
- Heterogeneous attenuation pineal region mass with peripheral hyperattenuation and foci of calcification
- Associated downward mass effect on the tectum and cerebral aqueduct with resultant obstructive hydrocephalus
MRI
- Heterogeneously enhancing pineal region mass measuring 4 x 3.4 x 3 cm
- The mass is predominantly T1 hypointense and T2 hyperintense and demonstrates extensive susceptibility artifact along its periphery
- Mild adjacent parenchymal edema in the right thalamus
- Associated downward mass effect on the tectum and cerebral aqueduct with resultant obstructive hydrocephalus
Annotated Images & Illustrations
Pineal region mass with peripheral hyperattenuation (red arrow) and foci of mineralization (yellow arrow).
Corresponding heterogeneous enhancement (red arrow).
Susceptibility artifact along the right aspect of the mass (red arrow) likely relating to hemorrhage.
Diagnosis
