1/32
Demographics: 37 years old, Female
Indication: Headache

Cerebellar Horizontal Fissure

Findings

  • Age-advanced cerebellar atrophy with associated prominence of the horizontal fissures bilaterally.  No CT evidence of acute infarct.

Diagnosis

Cerebellar Horizontal Fissure (Mimic)

Discussion

  • In patient's with cerebellar atrophy the horizontal fissures can appear prominent and mimic an infarct, particularly on thick cuts.

    • Usually the horizontal fissures can be differentiated from infarct given their linear and symmetric appearance in the setting of cerebellar atrophy.  Use your thins and reformats to help you identify the horizontal fissure.
