Demographics: 44 years old, Male
Indication: Right ear pain

Findings

  • Opacification of the right middle ear and mastoid air cells with resorption of mastoid septae
  • Infection erodes through the cortex resulting in an external subperiosteal abscess
  • Thinning of the posterior mastoid wall without extra-axial or intraparenchymal brain abscess
  • Additional area of thinning of the right tegmen tympani
  • Right sigmoid sinus remains patent

Diagnosis

Coalescent otomastoiditis

Sample Report

Findings consistent with right acute complicated coalescent otomastoiditis, including resorption of mastoid septae, adjacent external subperiosteal abscess, and thinning of the posterior mastoid wall.

No evidence of intracranial extension.

The right sigmoid sinus is patent.
