Demographics: 3 years old, Male
Indication: Neck pain, difficulty swallowing

Findings

  • Subcutaneous fat stranding and edema in the bilateral submandibular, sublingual, and submental spaces
  • No retropharyngeal edema or retropharyngeal fluid collection
  • Reactive submental, submandibular, and upper cervical lymphadenopathy without suppuration
  • Enlarged adenoids
  • Normal epiglottis

Diagnosis

Ludwig angina

Sample Report

Edema and fat stranding in the submandibular, sublingual, and submental spaces consistent with cellulitis as can be seen with Ludwig angina. No abscess. No retropharyngeal edema. Normal epiglottis.

Reactive submental, submandibular, and upper cervical lymphadenopathy without suppuration.
