Demographics: 74 years old, Male
Indication: Concern for postoperative ileus

Findings

  • Circumferential gas within the wall of the stomach
  • Mild diffuse gaseous distension of loops of small and large bowel
  • Retrocardiac pulmonary opacity
  • Surgical drain overlies the anatomic pelvis
  • Midline abdominal surgical staples

Diagnosis

Gastric pneumatosis

Sample Report

Gastric pneumatosis of uncertain etiology. Recommend CT for further evaluation.

Mild diffuse gaseous distension of loops of small and large bowel, which may represent ileus. This can also be further evaluated with CT.

Retrocardiac pulmonary opacity, which can also be further evaluated with CT.
