Demographics: 37 years old, Male
Indication: OR search film

Findings

  • Ribbon-like radiopaque body overlying the right upper abdomen
  • Incompletely imaged curvilinear radiopaque body overlying the left lower abdomen
  • NG tube coils in the gastric fundus with tip overlying the duodenal bulb
  • Endotracheal tube with tip approximately 5 cm above the carina
  • Central venous catheter tip overlies the superior cavoatrial junction
  • Incompletely imaged lower abdominal surgical drain
  • Surgical clips in the right hemiabdomen
  • Lower abdominal midline surgical staples. An additional staple overlies the left hemiabdomen
  • Dense left basilar pulmonary opacity, likely atelectasis

Diagnosis

Retained surgical foreign bodies

Sample Report

Findings concerning for retained surgical sponge in the right upper quadrant and retained needle in the left lower quadrant. Recommend repeat radiographs after removal.
