Findings

  • Lucency along the left cardiomediastinal border
  • Layering left pleural effusion with patchy left basilar opacities
  • Right lung is clear
  • Bilateral apical pleural thickening or loculated fluid
  • Bilateral upper rib fractures

Diagnosis

Trace pneumothorax

Sample Report

Lucency along the left cardiomediastinal border is concerning for trace pneumothorax or pneumomediastinum. Chest CT or lateral decubitus radiographs could provide further evaluation.

Layering left pleural fluid collection with patchy left basilar opacities likely representing a combination of contusion, atelectasis, and aspiration in the setting of trauma.

Bilateral upper rib fractures with biapical small extrapleural hematomas vs pleural thickening.
