Findings

  • Widening of the superior mediastinum, which also has an abnormal convex contour
  • Acute right posterior third through ninth fractures
  • Patchy right infrahilar opacity
  • No pleural effusion or pneumothorax

Diagnosis

Acute aortic injury

Sample Report

Widening of the superior mediastinum, which also has an abnormal convex contour. Findings are concerning for hematoma or aortic injury in the context of trauma. Recommend chest CTA for further evaluation.

Patchy right infrahilar opacity may reflect atelectasis, contusion, or aspiration in the setting of trauma.

Acute right posterior third through ninth rib fractures.

No pneumothorax or pleural fluid collection.
