Demographics: 66 years old, Male
Indication: Post-op ascending aortic aneurysm repair

Findings

  • Moderate-sized right apical pneumothorax
  • Pneumomediastinum with gas outlining the inferior margin of the cardiac silhouette along the diaphragm (continuous diaphragm sign)
  • Mediastinal drains/sternotomy wires/prosthetic aortic valve
  • Small bilateral pleural effusions
  • Hazy bibasilar opacities

Diagnosis

Pneumothorax

Pneumomediastinum

Sample Report

Moderate-sized right apical pneumothorax. No mediastinal shift.

Pneumomediastinum tracking along the pericardium and extending into the anterior mediastinum.

Small bilateral pleural effusions.

Hazy bibasilar opacities likely represent atelectasis in this postoperative patient.
