Findings
- Cortical destruction of the volar aspect of the second distal phalanx with permeative lucency and proximal sclerosis
- Mild osteopenia of the second middle phalangeal head
- Soft tissue swelling of the distal second digit with absence of the nail plate
- No acute fracture or malalignment
Diagnosis
Osteomyelitis
Sample Report
Cortical destruction of the volar aspect of the second distal phalanx with permeative lucency and proximal sclerosis. Findings are concerning for osteomyelitis in the correct clinical setting. Mild osteopenia of the second middle phalangeal head may relate to reactive hyperemia or spread of osteomyelitis. Consider MRI for further evaluation.
Soft tissue swelling of the distal second digit with absence of the nail plate.
No acute fracture or malalignment.
