Demographics: 1 month old, Male
Indication: Fussy child, choking episode

Findings

  • Metaphyseal corner fractures of the distal right femur, bilateral proximal tibias, bilateral proximal fibulas, and bilateral distal tibias
  • Faint periosteal reaction about the femoral and tibial shafts bilaterally

Diagnosis

Fractures of child abuse

Sample Report

Metaphyseal corner fractures of the distal right femur, bilateral proximal tibias, bilateral proximal fibulas, and bilateral distal tibias. These fractures are highly specific for nonaccidental trauma. Formal osseous survey is recommended.

Faint periosteal reaction about the femoral and tibial shafts bilaterally, which could represent physiologic periostitis or fracture healing.
