Demographics: 71 years old, Female
Indication: Acute on chronic low back pain

Findings

  • Linear areas of T1/T2 signal hypointensity and surrounding STIR signal hyperintensity in the bilateral sacral ala
  • Multilevel mild disc dessication and height loss with small broad-based disc bulges, facet hypertrophy, and ligamentum flavum thickening without significant spinal canal or neural foraminal stenosis
  • Small bilateral facet joint effusions at L3-L4 and L4-L5
  • High intensity zone in the left aspect of the L3-L4 disc, which may represent an annular fissure or granulation tissue
  • Normal position, signal, and contour of the conus

Diagnosis

Sacral insufficiency fractures

Sample Report

Findings consistent with bilateral sacral insufficiency fractures.

Mild multilevel degenerative changes of the lumbar spine without significant spinal canal or neural foraminal stenosis.
