Findings
- Diffuse cerebral edema with mild generalized sulcal effacement
- Scattered areas of sulcal FLAIR signal hyperintensity
- Scattered T2/FLAIR hyperintense lesions in the subcortical white matter
- No evidence of acute infarct, hemorrhage, herniation, or hydrocephalus
- Small polyp/mucous retention cyst in the right maxillary sinus
Diagnosis
Meningitis
Sample Report
Diffuse cerebral edema and scattered areas of sulcal FLAIR signal hyperintensity, which likely represent exudate in the setting of meningitis. No evidence of extraaxial empyema or cerebral abscess.
Scattered T2/FLAIR hyperintense lesions in the subcortical white matter, which are nonspecific and may relate to meningitis/encephalitis. Alternatively, these may represent sequela of prior trauma, infection/inflammation, demyelination, or vasculopathy.
No evidence of acute infarct, hemorrhage, herniation, or hydrocephalus.
