Findings
- Widespread restricted diffusion involving the bilateral cerebral cortices and bilateral corpus striatum with corresponding T2/FLAIR hyperintensity
- Mild generalized cerebral sulcal effacement and gyral swelling
- Mild effacement of both lateral ventricles without midline shift or effacement of the basal cisterns
- T2/FLAIR hyperintense lesion in the left frontal periventricular white matter
- Small bilateral mastoid effusions
- Mild mucosal thickening of several anterior ethmoid air cells
- Secretions layering in the nasopharynx, which may relate to the indwelling support apparatus
- Bilateral pseudophakia
Diagnosis
Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (adult)
Sample Report
Findings consistent with severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy involving the bilateral cerebral cortices and basal ganglia.
Mild generalized cerebral edema with partial effacement of the lateral ventricles but no midline shift, herniation, or hydrocephalus.
A T2/FLAIR hyperintense lesion in the left frontal periventricular white matter may represent a remote infarct or demyelinating lesion.
