Findings
- Enlargement of the adenoid and palatine tonsils with striated enhancement
- Area of hypoattenuation in the lateral aspect of the left palatine tonsil without clear peripheral enhancement
- Mass effect on the nasopharynx and oropharynx, which remain patent
- Reactive cervical lymphadenopathy
Diagnosis
Tonsillitis with phlegmon/early abscess
Sample Report
Enlarged adenoid and palatine tonsils with striated enhancement, consistent with acute tonsillitis. Area of hypoattenuation measuring 1 cm in the left palatine tonsil is concerning for phlegmon/developing abscess.
Mass effect on the nasopharynx and oropharynx, which remain patent.
Reactive cervical lymphadenopathy without suppuration. No retropharyngeal edema or venous thrombosis.
