Discussion
- Radial head fractures are the most common elbow fractures in adults
- The Mason-Johnston classification system is a commonly used surgical classification for radial head fractures, which divides them into the following 4 types:
- Type I: < 2 mm displacement
- Type II: > 2 mm displacement and < 30% articular surface involvement
- Type III: radial head comminution
- Type IV: radial head fracture with dislocation
- As with many fracture classifications, it is not necessary to use the classification in your report, but it is helpful to use wording similar to that used in the classification to help make your report more readable for the referring surgeon
