Demographics: 69 years old, Male
Indication: Concern for bowel obstruction

Findings

  • Mild diffuse gaseous distension of small and large bowel loops
  • Large volume of formed stool in the rectum
  • Bulging curvilinear calcification along the left aspect of the spine
  • Left greater than right small pleural effusions and bibasilar pulmonary opacities
  • Sequela of right inguinal hernia repair
  • Partially imaged median sternotomy wires

Diagnosis

Fecal impaction

Sample Report

Large volume of formed stool in the rectum, which raises concern for fecal impaction. Associated mild diffuse gaseous distension of small and large bowel loops throughout the abdomen.

Findings concerning for abdominal aortic aneurysm. Recommend CT for further evaluation if not recently performed.

Left greater than right small pleural effusions and bibasilar pulmonary opacities. These findings could be further evaluated with dedicated chest radiographs.
