Demographics: 75 years old, Male
Indication: Nausea, vomiting

Findings

  • Pneumoperitoneum evidenced by Rigler's sign in the right hemiabdomen and lucency beneath the right hemidiaphragm
  • Diffuse gaseous distension of the small and large bowel
  • Streaky bibasilar pulmonary opacities with small left pleural effusion
  • Midline lower abdominal surgical staples

Diagnosis

Pneumoperitoneum

Sample Report

Pneumoperitoneum, which could be postsurgical in nature given lower abdominal surgical staples. Diffuse gaseous distension of the small and large bowel, which could relate to ileus. Recommend attention on serial abdominal exams and consideration of CT if exam worsens.

Streaky bibasilar pulmonary opacities, favored to represent atelectasis, and small left pleural effusion. Consider dedicated chest radiograph for further evaluation.
