Demographics: 72 years old, Male
Indication: Abdominal pain, constipation

Findings

  • Marked gaseous distension of the colon with a twisted appearance of the sigmoid colon and relatively gasless rectum
  • Streaky bibasilar pulmonary opacities
  • Aortic atherosclerosis
  • L2 vertebral body height loss

Diagnosis

Sigmoid volvulus

Sample Report

Marked gaseous distension of the colon with a twisted appearance of the sigmoid colon and relatively gasless rectum, concerning for sigmoid volvulus. Recommend surgical consultation and consideration of CT for further evaluation.

Height loss of the L2 vertebral body, which can also be further evaluated with CT.

Streaky bibasilar pulmonary opacities likely represent atelectasis or scarring.
