Findings
Chest radiograph
- Mild patchy right basilar opacities
- Right anterolateral seventh rib fracture
CT
Chest
- Groundglass opacities in the right middle lobe and both lower lobes with several tiny intermixed lucencies
- Residual thymic tissue in the anterior mediastinum
Abdomen/pelvis
- Trace low attenuation free fluid layering in the anatomic pelvis
- Subcentimeter hypoattenuating structure in the hepatic dome which is too small to characterize
- Contraceptive ring in the vagina
MSK
- Mildly displaced fracture of the right anterolateral seventh rib with overlying soft tissue contusion
Diagnosis
Pulmonary contusion
Sample Report
Areas of pulmonary contusion in the right middle lobe and both lower lobes with several tiny intermixed lucencies possibly representing traumatic pneumatoceles.
Acute mildly displaced fracture of the right anterior seventh rib. No pneumothorax.
Trace low attenuation free fluid layering in the anatomic pelvis, which is likely physiologic. However, repeat imaging should be considered in 12-24 hours if there is clinical concern for an occult bowel or mesenteric injury.
