Chest radiograph

  • Multiple bilateral pulmonary nodules, sone of which have a cavitary appearance

CT

Chest

  • Multiple bilateral subsegmental pulmonary arterial filling defects
  • Scattered peripheral pulmonary nodules, several of which are cavitary
  • Mild dependent atelectasis
  • Mild biapical paraseptal emphysema
  • Trace bilateral pleural effusions
  • Multiple mildly enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes

Upper abdomen

  • No acute findings

MSK

  • No acute findings

Diagnosis

Pulmonary embolism (septic)

Sample Report

Acute bilateral subsegmental pulmonary thromboembolism without CT evidence for right heart strain. In combination with the finding of scattered bilateral peripheral cavitary pulmonary nodules, this raises concern for septic embolic disease.

Mild dependent atelectasis and trace bilateral pleural effusions.
