Demographics: 9 months old, Male
Indication: ? Foreign body

Findings

  • Soft tissue density measuring 17 mm in craniocaudal span just below the hyoid bone
  • Normal appearance of the epiglottis
  • Retropharyngeal soft tissue thickening
  • Prominent adenoids

Diagnosis

Normal suboptimal soft tissue neck

Sample Report

Limited soft tissue neck radiograph due to inadequate neck extension. Soft tissue density measuring 17 mm in craniocaudal span just below the hyoid bone, which could relate to the esophageal inlet, though foreign body is not excluded.

Normal appearance of the epiglottis.

Retropharyngeal soft tissue thickening likely relates to suboptimal patient positioning. If there is clinical concern for retropharyngeal edema or abscess, recommend repeat lateral soft tissue neck radiograph or contrast-enhanced neck CT for further evaluation.

Prominent adenoids.
