Demographics: 55 years old, Male
Indication: Right leg and abdominal wall numbness

Findings

  • Abnormal T2/STIR signal hyperintensity in the central and dorsal thoracic spinal cord spanning T5-T9 without substantial cord expansion
  • Associated patchy enhancement
  • No significant spinal canal or neural foraminal stenosis

Diagnosis

Transverse myelitis

Sample Report

Nonspecific T2/STIR signal hyperintensity and patchy enhancement involving the central aspect of the thoracic spinal cord and dorsal columns from T5-T9, for which the differential diagnosis includes infectious myelitis, transverse myelitis, metabolic derangement (such as B12 deficiency), or demyelinating disease (particularly neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders). Neoplasm is considered unlikely given absence of cord expansion. Recommend correlation with CSF analysis.
