Demographics: 51 years old, Male
Indication: Post cardiac arrest

Findings

  • Restricted diffusion throughout the bilateral cerebral cortical gray matter and subcortical white matter
  • T2/FLAIR signal hyperintensity diffusely involving the bilateral basal ganglia, thalami, hippocampi, substantia nigra, periaqueductal gray matter, and the cerebellar vermis and hemispheres
  • Generalized cerebral edema with compression of the fourth ventricle
  • No evidence of acute hemorrhage, herniation, or hydrocephalus
  • Mucosal thickening of the left greater than right maxillary sinuses

Diagnosis

Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (adult)

Sample Report

Findings consistent with severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.

Mass effect on the fourth ventricle without evidence of herniation or hydrocephalus.

No acute hemorrhage.
