Findings
- Multifocal small volume sulcal and interhemispheric FLAIR signal hyperintensity and associated susceptibility artifact as well as susceptibility artifact layering in the occipital horn of the left lateral ventricle
- Patchy cortical and subcortial T2/FLAIR hyperintensity in the bilateral parietooccipital regions with gyral swelling
- No evidence of acute infarct or hydrocephalus
- Small right mastoid effusion
Diagnosis
Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES)
Sample Report
Multifocal small volume sulcal and interhemispheric subarachnoid hemorrhage as well as trace hemorrhage layering in the occipital horn of the left lateral ventricle. In conjunction with the finding of posterior-predominant cortical/subcortical edema, this appearance is most suggestive of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES).
No evidence of acute infarct or hydrocephalus at this time. Recommend attention on short interval follow-up CT imaging.
