Findings
- Metallic radiopaque foreign body (large staple) punctures the left globe in two locations with extension into the retrobulbar space. The medial prong of the staple abuts the optic nerve and the lateral prong abuts the lateral rectus muscle
- The globe appears to maintain its normal configuration and the lens appears to be normally located, though evaluation is somewhat limited by metallic streak artifact
- Mild left periorbital soft tissue edema
- Partial opacification of the right middle ear
- Inflammatory paranasal sinus disease with near complete opacification of both maxillary sinuses
Diagnosis
Orbital foreign body
Sample Report
Metallic radiopaque foreign body (large staple) punctures the left globe in two locations with extension into the retrobulbar space. The medial prong of the staple abuts the optic nerve, which may be damaged, and the lateral prong abuts the lateral rectus muscle. No large retrobulbar hematoma or proptosis.
The globe appears to maintain its normal configuration and the lens appears to be normally located, though evaluation is somewhat limited by metallic streak artifact.
Partial opacification of the right middle ear without evidence for temporal bone fracture or osseous erosive changes. Recommend correlation with clinical signs of otitis media or hearing loss.
