Indication: Postoperative abdominal distension

Findings

  • Gaseous distension of multiple loops of small bowel throughout the abdomen measuring up to 5 cm in diameter
  • Streaky bibasilar pulmonary opacities

Diagnosis

Ileus vs small bowel obstruction

Sample Report

Gaseous distension of multiple loops of small bowel throughout the abdomen, which may represent ileus in the postoperative setting. However, small bowel obstruction is not excluded. Recommend attention on serial abdominal radiographs or CT for further evaluation.

Streaky bibasilar pulmonary opacities, which likely represent atelectasis. Consider dedicated chest radiographs for further evaluation.
