Findings

  • Poor definition of the left hemidiaphragm with abdominal contents overlying the left lung base
  • Rightward mediastinal shift
  • Hazy left basilar opacities
  • No pleural effusion or pneumothorax
  • Normal size of the cardiopericardial silhouette

Diagnosis

Diaphragmatic rupture

Sample Report

Poor definition of the left hemidiaphragm with abdominal contents overlying the left lung base. These findings raise concern for diaphragmatic rupture in the setting of trauma. Recommend CT for further evaluation. Associated rightward mediastinal shift.

Hazy left basilar opacities likely relate to atelectasis, aspiration, and/or contusion.

No pleural effusion or pneumothorax.
