Demographics: 43 years old, Male
Indication: Sepsis

Findings

  • Multiple bilateral nodular opacities, several of which demonstrate central lucency suggestive of cavitation
  • Small left pleural effusion with airspace opacification in the left lung base
  • No pneumothorax
  • Normal size and configuration of the cardiopericardial silhouette

Diagnosis

Septic embolic disease

Sample Report

Multiple bilateral pulmonary nodular opacities, several of which demonstrate central cavitation. In this patient with reported sepsis, the primary consideration is septic embolic disease. Consider chest CT and/or echocardiography for further evaluation. Recommend imaging follow-up to resolution to exclude underlying malignancy.

Small left pleural effusion with overlying atelectasis and/or airspace disease related to aspiration or pneumonia.
