Demographics: 40 years old, Male
Indication: Shortness of breath

Findings

Initial radiograph:

  • No evidence of acute cardiopulmonary disease. Thoracic aortic atherosclerosis

Follow up radiograph performed 2 hours later:

  • Interval intubation with tip of the endotracheal tube projecting 3 cm above the carina
  • Diffuse bilateral patchy airspace and interstitial opacities
  • No pleural effusion or pneumothorax
  • Normal size and configuration of the cardiopericardial silhouette

Diagnosis

Acute pulmonary edema

Sample Report

First study: No acute cardiopulmonary disease.

Second study: Interval intubation with tip of the endotracheal tube projecting 3 cm above the carina. Development of diffuse bilateral patchy airspace and interstitial opacities, which given abruptness of onset likely represent interstitial and alveolar pulmonary edema. No pleural effusion.
