Findings
Lower chest
- Mild dependent atelectasis
Abdomen/Pelvis
- Distension of multiple loops of small and large bowel throughout the abdomen with multiple air-fluid levels
- Abrupt transition point at the junction of the descending and sigmoid colon, where there is short segment of mass-like circumferential bowel wall thickening
- The sigmoid colon and rectum are decompressed
- Mild diffuse mesenteric edema with trace scattered interloop fluid
- Small volume nonloculated fluid layering in the pelvis
- No enlarged retroperitoneal or mesenteric lymph nodes identified
- No suspicious liver lesions
MSK
- No acute findings
- No aggressive appearing osseous lesions
Diagnosis
Large bowel obstruction
Sample Report
Findings concerning for large bowel obstruction due to an area of mass-like wall thickening at the junction of the descending and sigmoid colon. These findings are primarily concerning for an obstructing neoplasm. Recommend surgical evaluation.
No evidence of bowel perforation.
Small bowel distension likely relates to the colonic obstruction with no discrete small bowel transition point identified.
No findings specific for metastatic disease in the abdomen or pelvis.
